Due to the high biological activity in intact coral reefs, there are high concentrations of biopolymeric substances. In contact with nutrient particles and through colonization with specialized bacteria, particles with an increased nutrient content are formed, which are also visible to the naked eye. These flaky to filamentous particles are referred to as Reef Snow.
Tropic Marin® Reef Snow contains such natural biopolymers from the sea. Together with other food they form nutrient-rich flakes similar to those found in natural Reef Snow and deliver them to corals and other filter feeders. The concentration of a Tropic Marin® Reef Snow solution can be varied in order to adapt the size of the flakes individually to the filter feeders maintained in the tank.
– natural source of nutrients for corals and other filter feeders
- Increases the filterability of the particles for many corals and filter feeders
– improves their nutrient utilization
– reduces the nutrient load in the water
– Flake size variable
– larger particles are a healthy food with a prebiotic effect for fish
– ideal for binding vitamins and other enrichments to the feed
To use, stir approx. 1,5 dosing spoons of Tropic Marin® Reef Snow into 100 ml reverse osmosis water and leave to swell for one to two hours while stirring repeatedly. Then stir in the food or the plankton substitute, let it swell for another 30 minutes and then distribute it in the aquarium.
A prepared Tropic Marin® Reef Snow stock solution (without food/plankton substitute) can be stored at room temperature for two weeks. The size of the Tropic Marin® Reef Snow particles formed can be varied by varying the dosage with 1 to 2 dosing spoons per 100 ml.
