Chalice is the name given to various flat-growing LPS coral species. These species include, for example, Echinophylia, Mycedium and Echinopora. Beginners often confuse chalice corals with flat-growing Montipora corals. However, since Chalicea are LPS, they can be recognized by their large polyps or mouths. Chalices have become increasingly popular in recent months as they are easy to keep, fast growing and extremely colorful animals.
