Here we would like to tell you more about our small but beautiful coral farm. We, that is Arnika and Dominique, started our coral farming in Oberhausen in 2021. The basic idea of operating a question tank to multiply corals has already escalated to 3x 500 liter tanks during the planning phase. We now run 4 tanks in Oberhausen and a 5th at a friend's in Essen, where we are currently starting to breed special mother animals.

Our facility

We operate our system in a specially designed basement room. With a ceiling height of 1,78 meters, not for the faint of heart ;-).

We have connected our three equally large question tanks measuring 160 x 70 x 40 cm into one system and use a slightly deeper tank as a technical tank. In fact, in terms of stocking, this is our most beautiful or at least most colorful pool.

For the lighting we chose LED lighting. Here we use 5th generation Radions from Echotech. We use a Deltec 1500i as a skimmer, which we feed directly with fresh air via a hose, which means we achieve a very stable PH value of over 8.

We operate our system with Sangokai nutri complete in conjunction with the Balling salts from Fauna Marin. Based on our weekly ICP test, we then dose the individual elements according to the specifications of the Fauna Marin ICP result.

We think that the Sangokai system ensures good biology and a basic supply of elements. However, for the sake of a clear conscience, we then add the individual elements (even if it partially contradicts the specifications of the Sangokai system) in order to always keep the ICP for all values in the green range as far as possible. It just feels better and we are very happy with the results of our approach over a longer period of time.

Our range of coral species

Our offer is, as befits coral fans, a colorful mix. We try to offer an exciting range here, especially in the area of unusual soft corals, lots of different Zoanthus species, chalices and some Euphyllia species. Of course, we also have a few different types...What you like gets propagated 😉

Our packaging

As long as it is not a very large order, we have standardized the type of packaging we use and always use 3 x 30 x 30 cm boxes lined with 30cm thick Styrofoam. We use a double floor with 6cm Styrofoam and newspaper to protect against the cold, especially from below.

The corals are individually packed in small transport bags and then placed together in a larger bag. This allows for a temperature exchange between the individual transport bags, which we see as a major advantage over individual cups. Here we would be worried that one cup might get too cold and another might get too warm.

The lining of the cardboard ensures that minimal oxygen exchange takes place through small cracks. This means that the heat packs (none in summer and up to 3 in winter, depending on the weather) are always supplied with oxygen and can therefore develop their full heating power. A minimal amount of heat escaping through the air vents is absolutely harmless and even beneficial, as this means no heat build-up can occur. We use plenty of daily newspaper to ensure maximum padding so that nothing can slip. 🙂

Even if our packaging doesn't look the prettiest at first glance, in recent years we have had a failure rate of almost 48%, even with transport times of 0 hours. And if something should happen during transport, we of course give a money-back guarantee.
